Location

Penneshaw is located on the northeast coast of Kangaroo Island and has a population of approximately 300 people. Penneshaw looks back to mainland South Australia, which is just 18 kilometres away. The Kangaroo Island SeaLink ferry terminal is also located in Penneshaw, just 300 metres from the Kangaroo Island Seafront.

Take a short stroll from the Kangaroo Island Seafront and you will find Hog Bay and the Penneshaw Beach. A small, safe and sandy beach, it is the perfect spot for an easy stroll or a relaxing summer swim. The original site of Frenchman's Rock is located at the eastern end of Penneshaw beach. In 1803 a sailor with the French vessel 'Geographe', led by Captain Nicholas Baudin, left a carving to mark their group's presence on Kangaroo Island. This rock is now on permanent display at the Gateway Information Centre located in Penneshaw. Just beyond the beach is a Conservation Park where you can find your own quiet spot to watch birds, wallaby's and the world go by.
